These six parasites exert their effects either directly by invading tissues or indirectly by triggering immune responses or inflammation. These parasites target the regenerative organ grid with devastating effects if they go unchecked. One of the more notable examples is <em>Schistosoma<\/em>\u00a0species, or blood flukes, responsible for causing schistosomiasis. This disease, particularly from *Schistosoma haematobium, is associated with urogenital complications. Though it can affect females, males are the primary target.
